Owner Takes Senior Dog to the Vet, Finds Out Something They Never Expected

A senior dog called Sparky has captured the internet's hearts after his owners revealed he is so old that even his veterinarian is younger than him.

In a video shared on TikTok in July, under the username chelseabarbara0, the 19-year-old chihuahua can be seen enjoying cuddles from his dad, who's holding him in his arms and giving him lots of kisses.

"When you bring your senior dog to the specialist and he tells you how Sparky is older than the vet tech that's also in the room," says a caption shared with the clip.

In a previous clip, the poster explained that about two years ago he had suffered a stroke that left him completely paralyzed, but thankfully he made a full recovery and now he's walking and "thriving."

As much as we'd all love our furry friends to live forever, their lifespan usually lasts between 10 and 13 years depending on the dog's breed and size.

Dog wellness experts Dogster explain on their website that small dogs typically have the longest lifespans, averaging 10 to 15 years, and breeds like the chihuahua have a projected lifespan of around 18 years, although they have been known to live well into their 20s.

However, generally the larger the dog, the shorter their lifespan. Medium-sized dogs usually live 10 to 15 years, while large dogs' lifespan ranges from nine to 12 years.

Giant breeds, like Great Danes, have the shortest lifespan, living an average of eight to 10 years, and they are usually considered senior at only six years of age.
