Owner Reveals Only Thing That Wakes Sleeping Dog: 'She Knows'

Waking a sleeping dog can prove difficult at times, but one owner has left social media in hysterics by showing the one thing he knows will wake his dog up—and it works every single time.

As a guitarist and DJ, Adrian Joseph is used to coming home when everyone is already in bed, including his Staffordshire bull terrier, Jessie. But if there's one trick he knows will get her out of bed, it's opening the container he uses to store cheese in the fridge. As soon as she hears the box unclick, she immediately comes running downstairs.

Joseph, of Sydney, told Newsweek that "nothing else comes close" to getting her attention as much as a mouthful of cheddar. When her family returns home, she barely opens an eye, but if she gets a whiff of cheese, she's instantly awake.

"If she hears that sound of the cheese container opening, she will rise from the dead and come running," Joseph said. "She has always had a huge appetite, but ever since she was a puppy, she took particular interest in cheese. She even knows all the different packages it comes in, too."

On TikTok, under the handle @adrianjosephmusic, Joseph shared a clip of how much 7-year-old Jessie loves cheese. The video shows him quietly opening the cheese container late at night, before Jessie comes trotting downstairs moments later.

Internet users can't get enough of Jessie's love for cheese, and the clip has amassed more than 137,000 views and 18,000 likes on TikTok. Joseph wrote in the video's caption, "She knows what cheese sounds like in her sleep."

The American Kennel Club website said cheese is fine for most dogs to eat, as long as they don't have an intolerance, but it should always be consumed in moderation. It can be a good source of protein, calcium, vitamin A and essential fatty acids, making it a great reward for training activities.

If a dog is lactose intolerant, they will usually show signs of intestinal upset after eating cheese, which owners should look out for.

Jessie isn't one to hang around though, so as soon as she's had her delicious cheese snack and knows there's no more, she doesn't waste any time before heading back to bed.

"Once she realizes the cheese feast is over, she waddles back up and goes back to sleep. But for as long as the cheese container is out of the fridge and on the bench, she will wait," Joseph told Newsweek.

"I love it, and I find it hilarious that she doesn't even open her eyes when I come home from work, but when it comes to cheese, it's a whole different story," he continued.

The reaction to the viral TikTok video has been overwhelmingly positive, as many fellow dog owners loved seeing Jessie's reaction to her favorite snack.

At the time of writing, the video had received almost 1,000 comments on TikTok, with one social media user writing, "She wants the cheese tax."

Another TikToker said: "Must pay the house hippo their cheese tax. 100% knew it was a Staffie before they come down."

While another commenter wrote: "I knew it was a Staffy before she even came down the stairs. They are cheese obsessed."
