Watch the Sea Give Paralyzed Dog Ability to Walk Again Just 'a Little Bit'

A rescue dog that recently moved to Florida with her owner is experiencing a first: feeling what it's like to walk again.

Pani was brought to the United States when she was about 1. The paralyzed dog used to live on the streets of Iran before finally getting rescued. Owner Tedi first welcomed Pani into her home as a foster animal in New York City after she saw her at the shelter where she volunteers. But it wasn't long before Tedi knew she needed Pani for herself.

"I fostered many dogs before her, but given her special needs and all the experience I gained after many months fostering her and caring for her, I ended up adopting her myself," Tedi told Newsweek via TikTok.

Since the adoption, Tedi and the 6-year-old dog moved to Miami, which became a blessing in disguise. Tedi has been bringing Pani to the ocean and giving her a taste of the walking life, even if it only lasts "a little bit." She said the ocean water helps her walk by holding her hips up, as seen in an August 14 TikTok video posted to the account @tedisarah.

The caption reads: "Maybe this is the whole reason we were meant to move here."

The move has meant a significant amount of water time for Pani, compared with what she had before. Tedi said she tries getting to the beach several times a week, where Pani gets to experience what it feels like to walk.

Pani clearly can't get enough. In the clip, she's trotting through the water with ease. Full of confidence, she holds her head high. The water walking has become a highlight of her week. And when she's not in the water, she uses a canine wheelchair to get around.

"This was not her first time in the water," Tedi said. "She has done a lot of canine rehab/physical therapy, including hydrotherapy."

Canine hydrotherapy uses water to facilitate rehabilitation and to help pets suffering from various conditions or injuries. The water helps support their weight, allowing them to perform lower-impact movements that will not be too taxing on their joints, a Purina article says.
