Owners Give Dog Taste of His Own Medicine After Keeping Them Up Till 2 A.M.

After a long night of listening to their dog barking, his two owners decided it was time to get back at their fur baby for keeping them up.

The owners were sitting on the couch with their dog, which was sprawled out while getting his midday nap. A well-earned nap after he had gone on a barking frenzy the night before. One of the owners told Newsweek via TikTok that the dog still "doesn't like his own company." Hence, the barking through the night.

While the 9-month-old puppy has full access to the downstairs at night, he only wants to be with his humans. A baby gate separates him from his owners while they sleep upstairs, but he makes it very clear that he doesn't like being alone. He barked nonstop until about 2 a.m. one night and kept his owners up, a TikTok video posted by @kizvwoodman explained.

Running on limited sleep, the owners wanted to give their dog a taste of his own medicine. The owners counted down and, at the same time, performed their best dog-barking impersonation to wake up the pup. If they couldn't sleep, neither should he.

The dog shot up from his sleep, confused yet alert. He then realized he'd been tricked and immediately turned to his owners with a look of annoyance.

Their revenge was all in good fun, with a bit of frustration mixed in, but the dog's eyes showed how hurt he felt. Don't worry, the video said that "no doggies were harmed in the making."

"The look of betrayal at the end," pointed out a viewer. The dog is never going to forget this moment.

Another added: "I'm dead. Defo using this next time mine does it."

Others said they have already done this. "I do this as well. If I can't sleep, you ain't either. Especially waking me up and then immediately going to sleep, nope!" wrote one.

Someone else suggested: "Honestly disturbing their sleep all day works ... they sleep forever."

Get Your Dog to Sleep Through the Night

Both pet and human parents experience the same difficulties with their babies sleeping through the night. All they hear is crying, barking or whining, which keeps them wide-awake. This will be frustrating, but stay patient and maybe adjust your definition of sleeping through the night, as dogs might get you up at 5 or 6 a.m.

The website Rover offers the following tips to help your dog sleep through the night. Establish and stick to a bedtime routine and schedule. This includes removing food a few hours before and transitioning into more calming activities. Owners might want to dim the lights, put on soft classical music and provide a soft place for their dog to sleep.

Depending on the owner's preference, you could crate-train your dog. Be sure to mentally and physically tire out your dog throughout the day. Take it out for a potty break five to 10 minutes before bed.

And as difficult as it can be, ignore the barking and whining. If it keeps you up, Rover suggests using earplugs or white noise to block out your dog's racket.
