An out-of-state rescue organization successfully stepped up in the nick of time before a pregnant shelter dog was going to be euthanized.

A 2-year-old pregnant dog was on a list to be put down at a shelter in Oklahoma. Her euthanasia was set for 9 a.m., but after Sara, a seasoned foster mother, saw a post on Facebook about a last-minute plea to save dogs on the euthanasia list, she decided to step in.

Sara worked with rescue organization Pawsitive Tails Dog Rescue of Kansas City to get the pregnant dog, who is now referred to as Mama Baskin Robbin. They inquired about the dog at 8:30 a.m., just 30 minutes before the life-ending procedure. Sara told Newsweek they were all anxious, but the shelter holding the dog received their request just in time and held onto her until the rescue group could pick her up.

A volunteer drove 5 1/2 hours one way to pick up the mama and bring her to Sara's home on Tuesday. Sara shared the story on her TikTok account @pitbulls.rescues.kcmo in an August 12 video and viewers were immediately invested, sharing support and saying how they couldn't wait to see the babies.

By Friday evening, Mama Baskin Robbin was in labor and her 11 "scoops" came into the world. Each puppy was named after a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream flavor.

Sara said she was prepared for all the puppies, saying that the mama was "large and in charge" when she first saw her. Plus, this isn't her first rodeo. She's been fostering dogs and pregnant canines for over 10 years.

Mama and all her puppies are doing great, Sara said. However, Mama Baskin Robbin did give her a scare one night, as she was having tremors. Sara took her to the vet for tests. They discovered she was a little anemic, but that wasn't too surprising considering how long her labor lasted.

She is now receiving iron supplements and beef liver in her diet to bring her iron back up.

"She's an awesome mama," Sara said. "I usually have to help supplement them, but I haven't had to do it with her yet."

This happy ending brought in nearly 500,000 views, 67,000 likes and 1,089 comments on TikTok as of Tuesday.

"This breaks my heart to think what almost happened to her and those babies," commented a viewer.

A second person added: "So grateful to all who participated in this happy ending."

Another wrote: "Please tell me she gets to stay with all of her babies and live out her life in peace."

Mama Baskin Robbin is safe and sound with Sara. Her babies are fully taken care of and will be watched over until they are old enough to be adopted, which will be in about 10 to 12 weeks. The rescue won't start taking adoption applications until they are at least 8 weeks old.
