Stray Puppy Found Clutching Newspaper on Houston Street Finds Forever Home

Hearts have melted after a stray puppy, who was found carrying "nothing but a newspaper" in his mouth, has found a loving home.

Bingo, who is thought to be a pit bull puppy, was discovered on the streets of Houston by a volunteer for the nonprofit organization Corridor Rescue. While there is no way of knowing how long Bingo was homeless for, a spokesperson for the rescue charity told Newsweek that, when he was spotted by a volunteer, he "came running with the newspaper in his mouth."

An examination found that Bingo had canine parvovirus, a highly contagious infection, as well as the skin disease known as mange, which is caused by mites. But, after getting plenty of care and treatment at the Corridor Rescue kennel facility in Magnolia, Texas, Bingo was able to overcome those concerns and started learning how to be a regular puppy.

"Although he was actively walking the streets with his newspaper, his initial exam determined that he was severely dehydrated, parvo positive, filled with intestinal parasites, and suffering from sarcoptic mange at the time of his rescue," the Corridor Rescue spokesperson told Newsweek.

"He required flea and heartworm prevention, fluids, dewormer, antibiotics, and medicated baths for mange, as well as supportive care and treatment for the parvo virus."

Once Bingo tested negative for the virus twice and had two negative skin scrapes, he was neutered and listed for adoption.

Volunteers at the rescue were so excited for him to find a family as he's such a loving and sociable pup. After living on the streets and only having his newspaper for company, Bingo was so overjoyed with everything he had at the kennel. He happily played with every toy they gave him, and even turned his mealtimes into a game.

While it still isn't clear what age or breed Bingo is, the Corridor Rescue spokesperson said that one thing is clear: he is a "pure-bred good boy."

On August 3, Bingo finally got to make the exciting journey to his forever home in Minnesota, and he is said to be settling in wonderfully.

"Our adoption coordinator keeps in contact with all of our adopters. Bingo's adopter reports that he is adjusting so well to his home, he sleeps through the night, and is already the best companion," the Corridor Rescue spokesperson said.

To truly mark the start of a new chapter, his adopters have renamed him Chance, as they gave him his second one at life.

How Did Social Media React?

Corridor Rescue shared Bingo's remarkable story in a post on TikTok (@corridor.rescue) to celebrate his new chapter. The video showed the moment he ran toward a volunteer with his beloved newspaper, before footage of him finally getting "the life that he has always deserved."

The story has melted many hearts online, leading to over 141,500 views and more than 30,300 likes on TikTok in just a matter of days.

The rescue organization volunteers have been blown away by the support shown toward Bingo so far, but they highlight that there are many more dogs just like him who need saving.

The spokesperson told Newsweek: "Bingo has received so much support through his rescue journey and video. We find so many puppies who have been abandoned but still wait months to find an adopter. Our hopes are that Bingo's journey can help our other puppies who are still searching for a loving home.

"We can only rescue dogs like Bingo with community support. We would love to ask people to follow and share our posts so that we may find all our adoptable dogs a home."

Bingo's story has certainly captured plenty of attention, generating over 250 comments on TikTok already. One comment reads: "Sweet baby was looking for someone to bring his paper to, so happy that y'all got him."

Another TikTok user responded: "What a precious little soul."

"He was auditioning for bringing in the morning newspaper," added a third.

A fourth person wrote: "He delivered his newspaper then lived happily ever after in Minnesota."
