Cat's Priceless Reaction to 6th-Grader Learning the Trumpet 'Is All of Us'
Any musician will be the first to tell you that practice makes perfect, but sometimes, those rehearsals come at a cost for others in the house.
One sixth-grader named Jonah recently picked up playing the trumpet for his school band. His mother, Cara Leighty, told Newsweek via email that the trumpet is a new instrument for him. His usual go-to is the piano. Being a new instrument means Jonah needs to practice every note and master it before playing in the band. And where else would he practice than in the comfort of his home for the whole family to hear?
Jonah was preparing to play in the living room, as seen in two videos posted to the Instagram account @mrsleighty. The family cat, Charlie, sat in the rocking chair next to Jonah, hoping for a quick power nap. But little did Charlie know his human sibling was about to disrupt the peace.
Full steam ahead, Jonah started blaring into the trumpet and making music. Its loud sound bounced off the walls. Everyone listened closely, but Charlie, on the other hand, felt the new music pierce right into his soul.
Charlie's eyes widened, glaring directly at Leighty. His expression quickly let everyone know how he felt about the trumpet. He silently screamed, "Why on earth would anyone let this instrument come home with Jonah?"
At least Charlie isn't the only one who felt that way. The caption of the original video reads: "Charlie is all of us & we are Charlie."
"It was the first time Charlie reacted to it," Leighty said. "I looked over and saw his face and immediately pressed record on my phone and caught a couple of different looks."
Charlie was too stunned to move from his resting spot. The sound paralyzed him. He couldn't believe this was about to be in the house from now on.
"We all thought it was hilarious," she said. "After I caught one clip of him reacting, I made my son play again so I could get a second reaction LOL!"
But don't worry, she confirmed in the caption of the second video that "no cats were harmed" and that Charlie is fine. Although now that the clips have gone viral, he is "globally humiliated."
Both Instagram clips Leighty posted about the cat's reaction amassed over 728,000 views, 57,800 likes and 400 comments as of Wednesday. Viewers couldn't stop cracking up over Charlie's priceless face.
"The cat's like, 'What the crap is this?'" joked an Instagram user, while a second person said: "Really, Sharon? Really? This is how you want to encourage him?"
Another added: "As a trombone player and music teacher, it fills my heart with joy seeing his giggles when he plays!!! I hope he sticks with it, some of my best friends for life were made in band. That poor cat though, he's in for it."
