Giant-pawed kitten bullies every animal in the house: 'Chosen violence'
A tiny black cat has gone viral for terrorizing his family with constant attacks.
Mittens, named for his extra toes that give him unusually large paws, lives in Canada with owner Sonia Strickland, 40.
The cat, now 4, was adopted into the family as a tiny kitten after his mother was tragically taken by a coyote, Strickland explained to Newsweek.
"The home he came from thought no one would want him because he had extra toes, but we loved him more with his giant paws. He is full of personality and character," she said.
This character was on full display in a viral video shared to Strickland's TikTok account @isntshelovely25 showing a montage of how Mittens has "chosen violence and chaos every day of his life."
In the video, the kitten jumps to attack a sleeping golden retriever, back arched and claws out, before running away and jumping to attack again, while the dog takes absolutely no notice.
Next, he sneaks up and jumps on an older tabby cat on multiple occasions, whether she's sitting down ignoring him, trying to rest on a bed, or minding her own business on a chair—at which point Mittens climbs his way up the back of the chair and attacks.
The kitten is able to hold his own against the tabby easily twice his size, rearing up on his hind legs and chasing her around the room, getting batted in the head for his troubles.
And to top it all off, at one point he climbs across a patio door window, just for the chaos, with his extra toes likely giving him some extra clinging power.
Mittens is a polydactyl cat, meaning he was born with extra toes thanks to a genetic mutation: if one parent has polydactylism, there is a 50% chance their kittens will inherit it, according to pet care website Purina.
It causes no health issues, apart from needing extra trimming on their claws, and according to legend, polydactyls can even bring their owners good luck.
Strickland told Newsweek that when Mittens first arrived, he wanted to be close to their tabby cat, potentially wanting "a mom-type figure" after the death of his own mother, but she wasn't interested.
"So she wasn't very nice to him and he matched her energy."
It led to Mittens chasing after her, wanting to play, and when she ran it "made it a game for him to chase her."
She added: "Now that they are older, they get along better, but still have their moments."
TikTok users were in stitches watching the video of Mittens choosing violence, with the clip being watched over 5.6 million times and racking up over 17,000 comments.
"Clinging to that screen like a frog lol and his lean backs had me screaming," one wrote, with another saying: "These paws were made for bappin!"
"I can't, his little hand are so funny," another said. "A polydactyl black cat = absolute chaos."
And one joked: "That's not a cat, that's a demon."
Strickland had introduced Mittens to her cat slowly, but said she would have done things differently looking back on it.
She advised anyone looking to adopt a kitten into their home to make sure they are introduced to their other pets "slower than we did," where they "have a space away from each other that they can use on their own."
And while Mitten's unusual paws are adorable, she said it was also important for owners to take their cats for regular checkups, particularly if the pets are different.
"Mittens needs regular toenail clippings to make sure his claws don't overgrow," she explained.
Despite his violence, chaos and being labeled a demon to their other pets, she insisted Mittens is "the perfect mixture of crazy and sweet".
