A dog that followed his owner's lead when meeting a cat for the first time quickly melted hearts on social media, with the clip reaching nearly 2 million views.

On August 8, TikTok user @love.light.and.lucy posted a clip of her goldendoodle, Bailey, meeting her mother's cat, Kevin. Bailey stayed calm, with curious eyes. He closely watched others giving Kevin pets, taking note of the method.

Bailey then sat up, hesitantly put his paw up in the air and then placed it on Kevin's head. The paw slowly moved from Kevin's head to his back as the cat tried to escape from Bailey's affection. Kevin didn't know what to think about being petted by a dog. He didn't realize Bailey was just following the example of the humans in the video.

The caption reads: "Can't believe I caught this moment..."

Kevin immediately stepped away. He wanted nothing to do with the dog. And poor Bailey couldn't understand why. He turned around and watched Kevin stomp away. Bailey tried to follow but quickly turned around, knowing it was best to leave the cat in peace.

Luckily, Kevin wasn't completely repulsed by the dog's gentle touch. There was no hissing, a sign the cat might be scared or warning the dog to stay away. But not every cat and dog meeting goes as smoothly.

It's important for owners wanting to introduce a cat and dog to take the proper steps. This includes isolating the animals in separate rooms and allowing them to smell each other through the door, a Catster article says. From there, you can have them see each other at a distance. You can also switch up their living spaces so they get used to each other's items and smells.

Patience is key when starting these steps. These should all happen before the supervised meetings. When you are ready for your cat and dog to meet, be sure to keep the introduction short and sweet, with plenty of positive reinforcement.

'I Do Pets Too'

The clip has over 392,600 likes and 1,734 comments, and people couldn't get over how sweet the dog was when trying to befriend the cat.

"He was very mindful very demure," commented one viewer, while a second pointed out: "He was trying sooo hard to be gentle."

Another added: "He's like, 'I do pets too.'"

One user wrote what the cat was likely thinking: "The cat walking off like, 'I did not just get pet by a DOG.'"
