Laughter at Dog's Reaction to Discovering Neighbors Are Back From Vacation

A video of a dog appearing ecstatic that its neighbors have returned home has gone viral on TikTok.

The moment of elation was captured by @hound_mommy and has amassed almost 200,000 views. The pup appears to be a hound dog, according to a hashtag shared with the post. A message overlaid on the video reads: "The moment you realize your neighbors are back from vacation."

The footage begins with the dog shown standing with its nose up against a wooden fence in a backyard setting. The pet is later shown running across the yard, jumping up and down. A caption shared with the post reads: "Boomer is home, which calls for Happy Hops!"

The pup's heartwarming reaction comes as no surprise because our canine companions can form strong bonds with both other dogs and people.

A March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports found that "dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs, and that these relationships vary along multiple components across different partners."

In a February 2013 article for Psychology Today, Stanley Coren said that although canines are "happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions." He is a professor emeritus in the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and he is the author of several books about dogs.

Coren said: "Dogs that have been properly socialized will congenially approach virtually anything that is alive, regardless of its species, and, unless they receive hostile signals, they will attempt to establish a good-natured relationship."

'Such a Happy Baby'

TikTok users were delighted by the pup's joyful antics in the viral clip.

Jonny B posted, "Y'all know he smelt them when they turned in," and Krissy Kay said: "That nose smelled them when they turned on the block! Sweet baby." Lynn Pattalio wrote: "all those lovable wrinkles."

Ashley Florence commented, "I need him in my life," and blessedangel posted: "lol [laugh out loud] omg [oh my God] he's so cute."

Renee added, "He stole my heart. I want to hear his howl !!" and FlamingPriest wrote: "oh my goodness, he's so sweet!!!!"

"We literally do not deserve animals. They are so pure," noted james.
