New Mom Left in Tears As Dog 'Silently' Stays by Her Side During Night Feed

A woman recently has shared her experience of life with a dog and a newborn, and it's far less chaotic than you might expect.

In a heartwarming video shared by new mom Brooke Thomo (@brookethomo), she is seen cradling her baby. They are soon joined by her dog Cedar, who gently rests her head on the mother's arm, watching attentively.

Text on the video read: "When you think you're the only tired one," reflecting the challenges of caring for a newborn. This touching moment has garnered over 11 million views in just three days (as of August 24). The clip's caption added: "Through the cluster feeding nights and early morning wake-ups, she's been there too, quietly awake and waiting by my side."

During the clip filmed at 3 A.M., Cedar, a white border collie, can be seen gently going in closer to smell the baby—something that has left the internet in awe.

At the time of writing, the video has received 2.4 million likes and almost 6,800 comments.

A comment with 82,000 likes read: "Girl dogs and babies. It's just something about them, like they want to be your child's caretaker too."

"It's the checking on you before baby for me," said another, referring to the moment Cedar looks directly into her owner's eyes before looking at the newborn.

"People often forget about their pets after having a baby, and as someone who was in vet med for 11 years, that's absolutely destroys me. They will remain just as loyal and loving even if we waiver. So thank you for acknowledging that sweet fur baby of yours. I promise it means the world to her," praised another.

"The way you looked kinda relieved to see her," said another comment with 96,400 likes.

Thomo responded: "This was the first night at our house after the hardest hospital stay and seeing her really reminded me I was in fact, home." She also told another user that she was crying.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) website advises new moms to allow others to enter their home first so the dog can release their energy. Then, leash the dog and have treats ready. Parents should stay calm as they enter with the baby, speaking cheerfully to avoid making the dog anxious. They should praise calm behavior and distract their furry friend with treats.

How To Introduce the Dog to the Baby

For introductions, choose a quiet room, sit with the baby, and have a helper bring in the leashed dog. If the dog is calm, allow brief interactions, praising gentle behavior. The initial meetings should be short and sweet. Owners should remember to reward the dog with treats, then distract them with a toy.
