'Anxious' Dog Discovers Her Love for Water, but Only on One Condition

The internet has fallen in love with a very special dog who has an affinity for water—as long as there are no waves.

Maddie the dog lives with her owners, Jeremy and Abigail, in Ohio. She is often the star of the show on their TikTok account @the.barrows, where they document their lives together as a young married couple, and refer to themselves as "DINKWAN - dual income with a Maddie."

Maddie was born with a brain stem injury, and as Jeremy describes her in one video, "does things a lot goofier" than other dogs, but lives life to the fullest as she goes on adventures with her owners.

One video showing off Maddie's quirks has gone viral, having been viewed over 1.3 million times and receiving 125,000 likes since being shared on August 17.

In text overlay, the Barrows write: "POV: Your anxious dog loves still water, but water with waves..."

It first shows Maddie sprinting, in her unique way, down a garden and into a lake, diving straight into the water, having the time of her life.

But the clip changes to Maddie at the beach, first running towards the water before a wave hits her and she barks. Running back to the dry sand, she then jumps close to the water and leaps backward whenever the waves come too close.

TikTok users fell head-over-heels for Maddie, with one writing: "I'm absolutely in love with the way she skedaddles."

"Why is the WATER chasing ME," another joked, with one agreeing: "She's like this water has an attitude."

And as one put it: "She is such a joy to watch! Just living life to the fullest."

The senior dog regularly appears on her owners' TikTok account, where they previously explained she was the last in her litter to be adopted due to her additional needs.

Maddie was born with her brain injury, but any dog can acquire a traumatic brain injury (TBI) through an accident, such as being hit by a vehicle or suffering a fall.

Symptoms of a TBI in dogs include a loss of control of body movements, known as ataxia, a change in perception of special movement or in their vision, according to the website Wag!

Any pet owner who is concerned about a potential TBI in their pet should contact their veterinarian immediately.
