Impatient Bulldog Has Daily Tantrum Before Breakfast Is Ready: 'Stomps'
An English bulldog's tantrum has gone viral on TikTok, as social-media users smile at his impatience while waiting for breakfast.
The 1-year-old bulldog, named Grubbi, knows that his food dispenser releases his breakfast at exactly 8:30 each morning, and not a minute sooner. He usually goes to wait by his feeding station a few moments earlier, and he certainly isn't afraid to show his frustration at having to do so.
Grubbi's owners, Ilina and Irina Sim, twin sisters from Singapore, said that this routine happens every day without fail. However, it is not just before breakfast that this happens, as Ilina Sim told Newsweek that he does it before all three of his daily meals to tell them that he is "hungry and ready to eat."
A video showing his "tippy tappy dance stomps" was shared on TikTok (@heygrubbi) and it instantly went viral with over 19.1 million views and more than 1.7 million likes already.
Sim said: "Grubbi can be seen expressing both his excitement for his meal and his displeasure of having to wait while huffing and puffing. He repeatedly switches between staring intensely at his feeder, to looking back at us to signal that he can't wait any longer.
"We think it's the absolute cutest thing ever, and it never fails to make us chuckle. The little grunting noises he makes while stomping, and the occasional drooling, takes the cake."
The American Kennel Club says that bulldogs are usually very mellow and more than happy to unwind. But, as Grubbi shows, they aren't always the most patient of breeds, especially when it comes to food.
Although bulldogs may feel hungry constantly, the AKC says that owners should be cautious of overfeeding their pup. They do well on a diet of high-quality dog food, but owners must manage their consumption to ensure they don't risk becoming overweight.
As soon as Grubbi sees the food come out of his dispenser, he doesn't waste a moment before diving in. And once he is done, there is hardly a speck of food left in the bowl.
"Once the food dispenses, he runs over to the feeder excitedly and gobbles it all up within a minute or two," Sim said. "He will then proceed to lick at the empty bowl until it's clean and not a single crumb remains."
His owners often joke that Grubbi is "doing the dishes" for them with his rigorous attempts to clean the bowl of all remnants of food.
How Did TikTok React?
The reaction to the video online has been far greater than anything either of Grubbi's owners could have imagined. Irina Sim even said that she never imagined her "grumpy-looking English bulldog impatient waiting for his breakfast" would attract so much attention, but she is delighted that he can make so many people smile.
Sim told Newsweek: "We've really enjoyed going through the thousands of comments and reading what people are saying. So many people are amused by his adorable tippy-tappy stomping, his hilarious expressions and grumpy looking face.
"On top of that, many have expressed how incredible it is that dogs actually have a sense of time," she added.
After the clip went viral, many TikTok users lauded Grubbi for his tantrums, leading to over 7,800 comments on the post.
One comment reads: "OMG [oh my God]! This is the longest 1 minute."
Another TikTok user wrote: "He looks like he'd like to speak to the manager, immediately!"
A third person posted: "I demand you change the time to 8:28am for breakfast!"
