Moment Cat Sits on Owner's Lap for the First Time After 3 Years Together
A cat named Percy has melted hearts online after allowing his owner the privilege of him sitting on her lap for the first time—three years after they began living together.
In a post shared on TikTok under the username @percythecurious, the tabby cat can be seen climbing on to Sophie Stevens and then curling up in her lap, taking a quick nap while he's at it.
"Pov: you've been waiting 3 years for your unaffectionate cat to sit on your lap," reads layover text on the clip.

However, while this was a special moment for the poster, it didn't come without downsides. The owner says in the clip: "Omg that's the first time you've ever done that, what the hell? it's the jackpot. And I'm so hungry, but I can't move now."
A caption shared along with the heart warming clip says: "I imagine this is how hoomans feel when a baby takes its first steps, EVERYBODY STAY CALM."
Stevens, from the UK, told Newsweek that she got Percy, a spotted British shorthair, just after lockdown and that he has the funniest personality.

"Percy is my only child, I mean cat. I often think he's a human in a cat's body. The video itself was quite a big moment as he's never been an affectionate cat, so as [he] showed interest at climbing on my shoulder I thought, 'I've got to film this,'" she said.
"Initially I thought he was going to use me as a bridge to climb across, so that's where the genuine shock came when he lay down. He is a loving boy in his own way as most cats are. I think this video really resonated with fellow cat people as they know this moment truly is a special one."

Stevens added that when she first got Percy she never thought of creating a social media presence for him, but, after taking an incredible amount of pictures and videos of him in the first week alone, she realized she needed a place to keep the memories.
"One week after I posted the first video he hit 10,000 followers. It's been a little wild ride of having a cat being the most famous one in the household, but we're very grateful for all the opportunities that have come from starting our silly page to document the life of Percy."
Not all cats are lap cats, but just because they won't sit on your legs it doesn't mean that they don't love you.
Catster explains that sitting on your lap is preferential and while some cats enjoy it, other may not love it as much, or at all. One reason is that they don't like being held, especially if their back legs aren't supported and are dangling in the air.
Another reason may be their active lifestyle. In fact, some cats who are used to moving a lot may not feel comfortable sitting for a long time, on your lap or anywhere else.
Or perhaps your cat just needs some time to adjust to you and feel comfortable in their new environment.
"You can't force a cat to become comfortable with you, but you can consistently provide a safe and stimulating home environment for your cat. Eventually, they will start to feel safe, trust you and warm up to you," the website says.
The video of Percy finally sitting in his owner's lap quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 2.3 million views and 388,600 likes on the platform.
One user, Danielle Seay, commented: "Some say she's still sitting there as the cat has not moved and she's afraid to ruin it..."
Another user said: "I love how overjoyed you look!! I'm also super jealous you caught it on camera. my former feral finally sat on my lap after EIGHT YEARS and I was too stunned to even get a picture. whoops."
A third added: "Clear your whole calendar since you can never leave."
