Watch Puppy's Response to Carpet for the First Time: 'Cutest Reaction Ever'
The heartwarming moment when a Maltese puppy named Haku encountered carpet for the first time has been melting hearts online.
In a video with over 1.5 million views, Haku the puppy had an adorable reaction to his first experience with carpet. The footage shows the young pup bursting into a carpeted room, his excitement palpable as he dashes around, sniffing every corner. After thoroughly inspecting the new texture under his paws, he quickly decided to lay down, basking in the softness.
Haku's owner, Salome, who didn't give a surname, shared the special moment online. "We adopted him at 16 weeks, but he couldn't go outside until he was fully vaccinated," Salome told Newsweek.
"So, we started exploring the house, and I'm pretty sure that was the first time his paws touched something like grass. When we finally went outside, he had the same reaction. Now, he gets the zoomies whenever his paws hit the carpet. He's a hilarious and super-loving little guy."
Maltese breed dogs were recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1888, and today are the 37th most popular breed in the U.S.
Famous for their fluffy white coat, the small dogs are known to be great companions. Weighing less than 7 pounds on average, Maltese breed canines are generally very affectionate and good with other dogs and young children.
People were obsessed with Haku's response to the super-soft flooring under paw. In hundreds of comments, viewers shared their reactions.
"Oh to be a puppy seeing carpet for the first time," posted viewer Donis, while another TikToker, Letho, wrote: "This is the cutest reaction ever."
Another user Look2theSky79 perfectly summarized Haku's carpet exploring, commenting: "Inspection, closer inspection, sploot. Job well done."
Other pet owners shared their own animals' slightly less adorable reactions to seeing the soft flooring for the first time. Viewer LaniBannaniMy wrote: "[My] dog went to the bathroom when she saw it for the first time."
Salome—who had always dreamed of having a dog like Haku—couldn't resist sharing his endearing moments. Initially, she posted videos on her private social-media page, but when she noticed how much joy they brought to people, she decided to create separate Instagram and TikTok pages dedicated entirely to Haku.
"We've been getting so much love and positive vibes from people who totally get how much joy pets bring to our lives," Salome said.
