For most dog owners, the best part about returning home is usually the sight of their pup excitedly greeting them by the door. But that's a far more difficult task for one German shepherd owner, who can't even see the dog on the driveway.

A video shared on TikTok by user @larry719_lynda622 showed the unusual sight of a black dog waiting outside the house, seemingly invisible until the owner got much closer.

As the car rolled onto the driveway, it appeared as if nobody was waiting outside the open garage door. However, as the car got closer the guard dog's presence soon became evident, since it was waiting in the shadows.

The video of the inconspicuous black German shepherd, named Lynda, has amazed social media users since it was posted on August 13. Many were stunned by her stunning camouflage ability. In just days it's already generated over 9 million views and more than 963,500 likes on TikTok.

The caption layered over the video jokes that "the best part" about owning a completely black German shepherd is undoubtedly "the element of surprise."

While subtly guarding the house and blending into the background, Lynda can certainly catch anyone by surprise. Standing 26 inches tall at the shoulder, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the breed is renowned for being excellent protectors and loyal guardians.

They also make wonderful family pets, and their defining characteristics include courage, confidence and a willingness to defend their loved ones. The AKC says they usually bond closely to their human companions and will go to great lengths to protect them. But despite their unquestionable work ethic, German shepherds are happiest when they're relaxing with loved ones.

When Lynda isn't guarding her home and trying to appear invisible, she's usually found beside her canine brother, Larry, who is also a German shepherd. Their owner regularly shares videos of the inseparable duo together on their dedicated TikTok account, much to the delight of social media users.

The video of Lynda unexpectedly blending into her background mesmerized internet users, as many tried to spot her waiting on the driveway. But she caught most people by surprise, leading to more than 2,500 comments on the viral video.

One reads: "Dang!! I was waiting for him to walk out and didn't even notice."

Another TikToker said: "I literally had to pause this video to find him."

"Stealth mode activated," joked another user.

One commenter wrote: "The fact I had to watch this 5x before I seen him. He's dope."

Newsweek reached out to @larry719_lynda622 via TikTok for comment and could not verify the details of the case.
