Owners Let Newfoundland Handle Gender Reveal, Chaos Ensues

There's no doubt that gender reveals are supposed to be memorable, but a couple who decided to involve their dog in the big occasion were left with photos that they will truly never forget.

Involving a dog in a gender reveal comes with its difficulties, but mom-to-be Kayla Gardetto couldn't resist involving her Newfoundland named Kai. She told Newsweek via Instagram that she got a dog friendly cake made by a local baker, and she posted the hilarious results on TikTok (@kaithenewfie) last week to show just how much he enjoyed every bite of it.

The idea involved Kai sitting down to enjoy the celebratory cake, which was filled with icing that would reveal whether he will have a baby brother or a baby sister soon. As he devoured the delicious cake, his owners captured some action shots that will certainly live long in the memory.

The manic photos captured just how excited Kai was about the cake and with blue icing all over his snout, it became clear that they are expecting a boy.

"We did not expect such a strong social media reaction to the reveal, but also did not expect to get such comical photos of him with the cake," Gardetto said. "I'm glad people enjoyed the gender reveal so much."

The unique gender reveal has delighted TikTok users since the clip was posted, generating more than 7.3 million views and over 1.8 million likes at the time of writing. Users have hailed the brilliance of this reveal, which led to such memorable photos.

While gender reveal parties are becoming increasingly popular, they aren't too popular with the guests who attend them as it turns out. A 2022 poll by YouGov revealed that 44 percent of U.S. adults aren't a fan of them, and 32 percent say they are just OK. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they are more popular among women than men, as 36 percent of women are OK with them, compared with 27 percent of men.

In an additional survey by YouGov, participants were asked about the types of occasions they've attended and how they felt about each of them. Birthday parties and funerals were the most common events for people to attend, with 89 percent, and gender reveals were much lower on the list at 28 percent.

Among those who have been to a gender reveal at some point, 63 percent felt positively about it, while 19 percent had negative feelings about the event. The only events that ranked lower than gender reveals were farewell parties, bachelor or bachelorette parties, and funerals.

TikTok Users React

After seeing the magnificent effort that Kai put into the gender reveal, TikTok users have been full of praise for the Newfoundland. In just a matter of days, the viral clip has gained more than 2,000 comments from adoring fans.

One user wrote: "That pup knew exactly what his job was and he delivered."

Another user added: "I think the dog captured being a boy mom perfectly. Chaos. But cuteness."

"The best gender reveal ever," hailed another, while one jokingly wrote, "Unhinged yet adorable."
